In cooperation with ConfIndustria Italiana (Italy’s largest business association) and the city of Rome, CzechTrade Italy organizes a business delegation within the Smart Cities segment. The business delegation is further supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Italy, ConfIndustria Innovativa (National association of innovative enterprises), ANIE (National federation representing the Italian electrical engineering and electronic industry), and other business groupings within ConfIndustria Italiana (Piacenza SmartCities, OICE, ANIMA, and others).
Part of the program focuses on solutions for a smart and sustainable development of cities, which will be presented primarily to local integrators of Smart City technologies and to companies responsible for city development, in order to find a suitable local partner for participation in public procurements and tenders. The aim is also to share best practices of implementing Smart City solutions in both Czech and Italian cities.
In 2021, the city of Rome approved a strategic plan for urban infrastructure development and started to plan long-term investments in urban infrastructure development and implementation of smart city solutions. Currently, the strategic plan expects an investment of EUR 200 million for the first 81 projects covering the following areas: security, economic development, cultural participation, transformation of cities, tourism, education and schools, social welfare, energy industry, environment, mobility, and other cross-sector topics.
Also, under the terms of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the Italian government has earmarked a total of EUR 96 billion, which will be allocated until 2026 for projects related to the development of a new, smart infrastructure, especially in the south of Italy. The Plan aims for digitalization, transport development (the so-called “Italia Veloce” plan), and applications of energy-saving solutions. On June 16th, the six best startups, selected from thousands of applicants in the WMF 2023 Startup Competition, competed on the Mainstage. One of them was the Czech company Cyrkl that ultimately won the Audience Award!
Cyrkl is born with the idea of implementing the principles of the circular economy in businesses, from raw material sourcing to waste reduction and disposal. Cyrkl's mission is to help companies from all industries improve their sustainability by optimizing the management of material flows. Through the development of an international digital marketplace, it connects producers and recyclers without intermediaries. This allows companies to discover the true value of their waste, promoting material circularity and the use of secondary raw materials, thus creating industrial symbiosis in practice.
